Welcome to the World of Sales and Trading
Last Updated:Welcome to the new home of the Sales and Trading Interview Prep Course.
When I had my first interviews for sales and trading summer analyst positions, I was largely flying blind. Luckily things worked out, but in hindsight I felt not only underprepared for my interviews, but entirely unprepared for what to expect once I hit the trading floor.
Over the past five years sales and trading interviews have become more complicated, more competitive, but yet no one has come out with any kind of sales and trading course that explains it all to those looking to break into the industry.
Not only is there no introductory guide, there's nothing that breaks down different desks and gives you a fulsome education on sales and trading as it's practiced at leading sell-side banks like Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Barclays, etc.
In early 2020 I set out to change all this. I outlined what I thought would not only be a course that provides all the sales and trading interview questions you need to know, but that also gives you the contextual understanding necessary to truly shine in an interview and on the job.
I first released this to a few colleges where students absolutely loved it and were able to land some of the best sales and trading summer analyst internships and full-time offers out there.
This website is the home to not only all the guides, but this blog will also serve as a platform for explaining the world of sales and trading more fully. Sales and trading is a phenomenal place to begin your career, but at the same time you need to understand the vast array of desks that make up the trading floor.
No single individual is the right fit for every desk and you should view your job as figuring out what kinds of desks are the best fit for you. I understand how incredibly difficult that can be and the larger purpose of this site is to try to shed a little light on all of this for you.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by and I know you're going to love what is still yet to come. If you have any questions, be sure to reach out. If you are gearing up for an interview in the coming days or weeks, here are some tips for your interview, a long list of common S&T interview questions, and a large overview of sales and trading.
